- 1). Determine the Dell laptop's output capability: VGA, DVI or HDMI. Acquire the proper cable based on this determination. Possible cables include VGA to VGA (if the TV has a VGA or "PC" input), DVI to HDMI, or HDMI to HDMI.
- 2). Connect one end of the cable to the TV.
- 3). Connect the other end of the cable to the computer.
- 4). Turn on the TV and select the proper input on the TV.
- 5). Hold the Windows logo key and press "P" two, three or four times, depending on the TV output mode you want to set the computer in. Two presses of the "P" key puts the displays in "Duplicate" mode, where the same image is displayed on both the computer and the TV. Three presses is "Extend" mode, where the TV and computer use separate screens. Four presses sends the video signal to the TV only and turns off the laptop display.
