- 1). Place a copper pipe cutter over the copper pipe.
- 2). Turn the knob on the pipe cutter until the blade touches the copper. Turn the pipe cutter around the pipe to score it. Turn the knob to tighten the copper pipe on each turn to break the pipe.
- 3). Insert the ream tool blade into the end of the copper pipe to remove any burrs.
- 4). Rub the end of the pipe with an emery cloth until the copper begins to shine.
- 5). Clean the copper pipe fitting you are using to join the pipe with a fitting brush. Bring the cut section of the copper pipe to the plumbing supply store to find the correct fitting size.
- 6). Apply a lead-free flux to the end of the copper pipe rubbed with the emery cloth using a flux brush.
- 7). Slide the joint over the copper pipe to join the two pieces.
- 8). Light the torch according to the instructions on the torch.
- 9). Hold the blue flame on the joint.

Touch the end of a soldering wire to the joint on the opposite end of the joint from where you are holding the flame. Hold the wire until it melts around the joint.
