- 1). Install a top-notch sound card. Sound cards have varying degrees of quality. In this case, more expensive does tend to indicate better quality. You can purchase sound cards that have connections for complex sound systems such as 7.1 surround sound.
- 2). Connect a speaker system to your sound card. No matter the quality of the sound card, if you don't have a speaker system that is high quality, you won't hear the music as well. Connect the speakers to the sound card and place them in the correct position around your room to provide you with the best sound.
- 3). Make sure you have enough hard drive space. If you have a lot of music, it can easily take up several gigs. Delete files on your hard drive to make space, or buy an additional hard drive for your music. A portable USB hard drive will allow you to take your music with you to other computers.
