- 1). Select your cat statue from which to make your mold. Choose one that is small to begin with (about 3 to 4 inches long and high) if you are a beginner, as this type of mold making takes a little practice and is easier if the object is smaller.
- 2). Mix up the latex mold making compound in a plastic bowl with a stirring stick, adding water until it starts to become like heavy cream or chowder soup.
- 3). Set your cat object on a piece of cardboard or newspaper. Paint the object with a coat of the latex mold compound using a paint brush as the applicator. Make a very even coat covering the entire object and removing all air bubbles. Let dry for 4 to 5 hours.
- 4). Apply three more coats of the latex compound, one on top of the other, letting each application completely dry before the next is applied. Remove all air bubbles from each application by brushing the compound with the brush. Let the final coat dry completely.
- 5). Release the mold by pulling it off of the cat object or statue after the final coat is completely dry.
