The Best Method For Grooming Your Cat

Cats by their very nature, are very clean animals and will do their best to remain clean.
Grooming helps keep cats clean and in top condition.
The most important part of grooming is the Brushing.
This will help keep your cat's coat smooth and free from Hairballs.
Hairballs are simply a buildup of loose hair in the cats fur.
Most cats find it difficult to get rid of hairballs.
A persistent hairball in your cat's stomach can cause blocked intestines.
In cats especially, blockages of this nature can cause death.
Long-haired cats in particular need to be groomed on a daily basis, while their shorter haired counterparts can be brushed once a week.
When grooming, be on the lookout for any unusual lumps or skin irritations.
Always start your grooming from the top of the cats head to the tail.
Do this several times on one side and then repeat on the other.
Always try to brush in the same direction of your cat's natural hair growth.
As a precaution, never brush your cat's face or paws.
There will always be some cats who will not like grooming.
The owner may find the use of a tool called the Grooming Glove to be a great alternative.
However, the best method is always to start grooming as early as possible.
This would mean getting the cats used to the idea of being brushed while they are kittens.
The task becomes easier once they grow older and some cats even learn to enjoy their grooming session.
It is a good opportunity while grooming your cat to give him a thorough examination.
Pay particular attention to his eyes, ears, claws and teeth.
Eyes should be bright and free from residue.
The ears should be free from dirt and rosy pink in color.
Make sure there are no Ear Mites in the ears.
Ear Mites derive from an excessive buildup of dirt in the cats ears.
These persistent organisms are very irritating for your cat and if left untreated can result in deafness.
The owners best defense against ear mites is regular ear examinations to ensure they are in good condition.
During each grooming session, always try to do a more thorough examination.
If you cat remains calm while he is being examined why not give him a treat for good behavior? However there will be times when your cat just does not want to be examined.
In these cases it is best not to force the issue and try again some other time.
As time goes on, your cat will get used to the idea and eventually enjoy his weekly grooming time.
