How did it come to this? Our worlds have been turned upside down.
We pay more for gasoline than we do for milk.
People's homes are being foreclosed on, eviction rates are up.
We used to look up to people for their achievements in the arts and sciences, and now we look up to reality shows and tabloid magazines.
The news is no longer the news when all it covers is who is rehab or who is in court.
The children are given no role models, yet we wonder why they act the way they do.
The time for change is gone, because there is no more America.
We live in a country founded on a really great idea, and have twisted those ideas to suit our needs, wants, and every desire.
We allow the people in charge to do what they wish as long as we get to live with the idea that everything is okay.
It's not okay, and it hasn't been in a long time.
We have given up liberty in the pursuit of security.
And now we have neither.
But we have reality TV, E! news, and TMZ.
We can drown our sorrows and ignore our worlds by immersing ourselves in the follies of others.
We can all sit around and say, "Well at least, I'm better than that.
" When did the schools become unsafe, and when did the only clothes you could buy your daughters reveal so much skin? When did we start sitting back and letting the world that our ancestors built fall apart? When did we stop caring? This is not a world that you can give to your children.
A place where art is replaced by whatever the hell makes money.
A place where there is nothing more to make you think.
It's as useless and empty as we've all become.
Our souls are gone.
Swallowed up by the money, the government, and the desire to achieve more than the person sitting next to you.
There is no more America.
We have allowed ourselves a future full of selfishness and lacking thoughtfulness.
And nothing will change this.
We are contented.
We are fulfilled.
