- 1). Make sure the component cable connection between the Akai rear-projection TV and the cable or satellite receiver is not compromised if there appears to be a problem with video output on the TV. The prongs on the ends of the component cable must be properly plugged in. Each end of the cable has a set of prongs, and each set consists of a red, a blue and a green prong. Ensure the prongs are color-matched with the component ports on the back of the TV and the back of your receiver. For instance, the green prongs must be inserted into the green ports, and so on.
- 2). Check for any outside components that may be causing interference with the Akai rear-projection TV if there appears to be colored blotches on the display. Computers and related high-powered electronics give off electronic interference that can cause these display irregularities. Move any potential electronic device culprits to an area that is farther away from the Akai TV. You should see an immediate clarification of your TV's display.
- 3). Shut off your Akai rear-projection TV and disconnect the power cord if display problems persist and there is a colored haze projected onto your screen. Lay a towel down on your floor surface and gently lay the TV face down on the towel.
- 4). Remove all the screws from the rear cover of the Akai rear-projection TV using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Carefully pry off the rear cover.
- 5). Locate the three lenses of the rear-projection TV at the top of the back of the television now that the cover has been removed. Use a damp cloth and a slightly soapy water mixture to clean each of the three lenses.
- 6). Dry each lens thoroughly with a separate, dry cloth. Replace the rear cover and the assorted screws and stand the Akai rear-projection TV back up. The display problem should be fixed.
