Manufacturer

• The xD-Picture Card was first manufactured by Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd. and Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. as a combined effort in 2002. SanDisk introduced the micro SD card in 2005.
  
  

Dimensions

• The micro SD card is 15 mm high, 11 mm wide and 1 mm thick, about one-fourth the size of the standard SD card. The xD-Picture Card is much larger, measuring 20 mm high, 25 mm wide and 1.7 mm thick.
  
  

Capacity

• Both the xD-Picture Card and the micro SD card are available with storage capacity up to 2 GB. High-capacity versions of the micro SD card have storage capacity up to 32 GB, as of September 2010.
  
  

Compatibility

• The micro SD picture card is primarily used in cell phones. The cards can be used with anything that is SD-capable but they usually require an adaptor. The xD-Picture Card was made specifically for digital cameras as a portable storage device. It was manufactured to be the only card used with Fuji and Olympus digital devices. In 2008 Fuji and Olympus made their devices compatible with both SD and xD cards.
