How to Remove an IR Filter

    Removing the Camera Body

    • 1). Remove the rechargeable battery from the camera. Remove the six screws on the bottom of the camera body with a small Phillips head screwdriver. Open the "Compact Flash" door and remove the two screws at the back of the camera.

    • 2). Remove the two screws on the right side of the camera near the "Video Out" port. Lift the padded viewfinder piece away from the viewfinder area. Remove the two screws and the diopter adjustment knob behind it with a small Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 3). Remove the two screws near the carrying strap handles and the screws at the front of the camera near the lens receptacle. Pry the front cover away from the camera. Pop open the rear panel and disconnect the two ribbon cables at the bottom connecting the panel to the camera. Use tweezers to carefully disconnect the two smaller ribbon cables at the top and the red cable near the right side of the camera. Remove the "Video Out" port cover and set it aside.

    Removing the PC board

    • 1). Push the top cover of the camera upward and remove the black tape covering the large ribbon cable. Remove the cable with a pair of tweezers. Remove the four silver screws at the corners of the camera chassis and remove the remaining ribbon cables.

    • 2). Remove the silver screw at the bottom of the "Video Out" port area and remove the remaining screw near the "Compact Flash" receptacle. Use a soldering iron to de-solder the six joints holding the center metal shield in place, and lift the metal shield out of position using tweezers.

    • 3). Disconnect the two ribbon cables underneath the metal shield and the cable to the lower right of the shield. Flip the PC Board over to reveal the camera sensor assembly.

    Removing the Filter

    • 1). Remove the screws at the top right corner and bottom right corner, and the two screws at the bottom left corner of the sensor assembly. Lift the sensor out of position and flip it over. Remove the top and bottom screws on the face of the sensor and lift the metal faceplate away. Remove the screws on the left and right side of the sensor and lift the filter away from the sensor.

    • 2). Flip the filter assembly on its back. Peel off the double-sided tape gasket with tweezers.

    • 3). Use an Exacto knife to cut through the adhesive holding the filter. Remove the IR filter from the assembly with tweezers.
