- 1). Check the display of an electronic thermostat. If the display isn't showing, confirm that the batteries are working. Replace dead batteries.
- 2). Locate the furnace fan switch, usually on the bottom of the thermostat. Switch the fan into the "on" position. Listen for the furnace fan to come on. If you cannot hear the fan, move closer to a supply register and try to detect any air coming out. No air circulation when the fan switch is on may be due to a furnace power failure.
- 3). Verify that the home circuit breaker has not been tripped. If the circuit breaker has been tripped, reset the breaker switch by turning it all the way "off" and then back "on." Contact a qualified service technician if the circuit breaker keeps tripping.
- 4). Check all air registers to ensure that they are not blocked by furniture. A blocked register can impede air circulation and the effectiveness of the forced-air system. Reposition the furniture to avoid obstruction.
