- 1). Turn off water to the house. Open the bathroom faucet and open a faucet at the low point in the house to drain the plumbing system. Drain both the hot and cold water lines.
- 2). Wrap three or four turns of Teflon tape around the threaded portion of the shower valve. Thread the fittings onto the shower valve, and, using the adjustable wrench, tighten "hand tight" plus ¼ turn.
- 3). Polish the surface of the copper supply tube and the inside of the fitting, using the emory cloth. Thoroughly coat the end of the tube and the inside of the fitting with flux.
- 4). Slide the tubing into the fitting until it bottoms out.
- 5). Heat the fitting with the torch until it's hot enough to melt the solder. Continue applying heat while adding solder to the junction between the fitting and the pipe. Solder will be drawn into the joint by capillary action.
- 6). Close the shower valve, and turn the water on to check for leaks.
