IPad2 Vs Laptop. Which Is the Best Choice?

The release of the new iPad2 has made many people wonder whether a laptop or an iPad is the best choice for their needs. In general, an iPad can be used as an e-reader, a gaming device, a digital photo frame or an iPod. Basically the iPad comes between a smartphone and a laptop. A laptop on the other hand, can provide you with all the benefits of a desktop as far as business, entertainment, gaming, networking and many more are concerned. Laptops are actually portable desktops.

Technical Characteristics, Productivity and Performance
The iPad appears to have a major disadvantage as far as connectivity is concerned. It lacks a USB port, a SD memory card slot, and an ethernet port. It is only equipped with a 30-pin Apple port. The only way to connect other devices is through a PC or a camera connector kit.
The technical characteristics of the iPad 2 are also specific: it has a 1Ghz Apple processor and Wi-Fi antenna with bluetooth connectivity.
The maximum hard disk capacity currently available in an iPad is 64 GB. The new generation laptops have at least 200 GB.
What's more the iPad has no flash, no web camera and limited Office applications. There are few iPad friendly video formats, so video watching is limited. The file-sharing and multi-tasking capacity of the iPad has been criticized. Finally only light games can be easily played on the iPad. For more hardware demanding games you will have to use a laptop or a PC.

Battery Life
This is an important feature to examine. The new iPad2 has a battery life of 10 hours (the same as the iPad1) with a single charge. Only a few laptops such as the Apple's own MacBooks can reach up to 10 hours of battery life. Most of the others laptops are limited to 3 hours only, not to mention that their chargers are heavier than the laptop.

Size and Weight - Portability
A laptop can weigh an average of 6 – 8 pounds while the iPad is only 1.5 pounds approximately (iPad2 is only 1.3 pounds). The iPad also offers quick booting and loading, and no unpacking or repacking a bag. Be careful though, because it is made of glass and also needs a protection.

Operating System and Apps
Laptops can work with any operating system. But the iPad will only work with a specific operating system, the iPhone OS. This means you can only use apps from the App Store. The good news is that there are multiple apps available for almost anything. If you don't want to use apps from the Apple store, you can create your own using a good software [http://appsecrets.cosmosale.com]. You can even sell your apps through the Apple store and make a profit out of them.

Functionality and Navigation
The iPad uses a touch screen as an input device, while a laptop uses a mouse and a keyboard that we are all familiar with. There are certain advantages to using a touch screen. It can be easily adjusted and can even be used when there's no available space for a mouse. Those who use touch screen mobile phones are already familiar with the benefits of this new technology.
Since there is no official instruction manual for the iPad, so you could use the available iPad video lessons [http://ipadvideolesson.cosmosale.com] to learn both the simple and the hidden tricks of the iPad tablet

Price
The iPad 2 costs between $499 and $699, approximately which is cheaper than an average laptop. However, iPads are new gadgets and their price is expected to fall in the next years in order to become competitive in the market.

Laptop or iPad?
The choice of a laptop or an iPad depends on your needs and likes. The iPad is portable, efficient and suitable for browsing, watching movies and reading eBooks. You can also play “light” games.
