- 1). Clean the microscope properly, carefully attending to each piece of the apparatus. Wipe down the arm and base using a Kimwipe product to remove any dust or debris. Using lens wipes or a cotton-tipped swab and lens solution or ethanol (for oil immersion microscopes), carefully clean the lens and eyepieces. Be careful to clean the lens gently as it is fragile and scratches easily. Compressed air is also a good tool to carefully clean your microscope.
- 2). Wipe down the microscope cord to remove any dust particles or oil from the cord. Wrap the cord around the base of the microscope for easy and tidy storage.
- 3). Place dust caps over eyepieces and place a microscope cover over the microscope. Be careful to zip up or button up the cover completely to ensure that dust is kept out.
- 4). Carry the microscope with two hands, one on the arm and one at the base for stability, over to a storage shelf or cabinet. Make sure the cabinet or shelving is sturdy and will not be jostled in any way as the lenses will be disturbed and possibly damaged if bumped.
