Choosing The Best Diets For Weight Loss

There are a wide variety of diets for weight loss out there, some are better than others. Some don't even deliver on their promises at all. What you need is a way to sort through them to separate the good from the bad.

Don't Believe Miracle Weight Loss Promises

Some diet programs claim to have miracle weight loss powers. They will tell you that you will lose ten pounds in the first few days. You probably will, but you have probably learned by now that rate of weight loss usually can't be maintained in the long haul. This goes for just about any diet, and if this is their big claim, chances are it's the best they can offer.

What's actually going in with this miracle 10 pounds in the first week or less loss of weight is that you're losing water weight. It's a perfectly natural and common occurrence when you start working towards burning fat. The real measure of success in diet programs is how you lose weight after you lose that first ten pounds.

Don't Bother with Supplements and Shakes

The problem with supplements and shakes is that they're not natural. The idea is that you pop a few pills or mix a powder in water or milk and it's supposed to help you lose weight. To a limited extent, this works.

One problem with both of them is that they're not actually food. Appetite suppressants are often added, but in the end, you won't feel satisfied with what you're consuming. It's all too easy to fall into drinking the shakes or popping the pills and eating.

Also, they often contain stimulants, which can do damage to your cardiovascular system. Plus, the longer you use them, the more you need--and it gets awfully expensive. This can't be maintained forever, and once you're off the plan, you start gaining weight again, and these plans may not work for you again--ever.

You're better off Eating Food that Burns Fat

Many of the claims that the other diets, particularly the pill and powder ones, can be accomplished by eating food that burns fat. Just a few dietary changes, and you're on the high road to losing weight. Even better, you won't develop a "tolerance" (there's a big clue there!) for what's causing you to lose weight.

Eating more protein and fewer carbs is the key element to naturally losing weight. Carbs are the largest contributor to your waistline, whereas higher levels of protein and zinc contribute to weight loss. Afraid of fat? Go organic!

With that said, there are a few kinds of protein that will not help you with your diet. Protein from dairy products comes with too many carbs, so that should be taken from your diet (or seriously reduced at the very least). Soy protein also tends to come with a lot of carbs and salt, as well as estrogen precursors that program your body to keep fat on.

In the end, there's really no big trick sorting through the diets for weight loss. If you eat as humans are meant to eat, not as we're sold to, you will go a long way toward melting that extra fat.
