How to Deal With Mice in the House

No one likes to see a mouse inside their home, but sometimes it's inevitable.
If you live in apartment building or out in the woods, you may very well be exposed to some visitors once in a while.
If you've recently spotted a mouse living within the confines of your house, don't worry.
Follow some advice laid out here and you'll be good to go.
The first thing you should understand when it comes to dealing with a mouse is that you should never panic.
Realize that mice are more scared of you than you are of them, and they'll never try to attack you.
It's also important to have some insight into the way they operate.
Since their vision is very weak, they essentially rely on their great sense of smell and their strong hearing in order to move around.
When they hear you, they'll quickly scurry away to avoid your presence.
If you're quite, though, they won't know you're there.
Getting back to the smell thing, they're obviously attracted to food.
Can you really fault them for it? Without access to food, they won't be able to live.
Unfortunately, it doesn't take much to keep them going and any crumbs or wrappers on your floor will immediately become their meal.
The best way to get rid of them is to keep your home free and clear of all loose food.
I would also strongly recommend keeping the smell of food to an absolute minimum too.
Whether it's coming from your garbage or your kitchen because of something you've left out, even if they can't get to it they'll still hang around in search of that food.
If you'd like to make an effort to catch them, there are obviously traps but I prefer the more humane means of doing it.
There are safe traps that lock them into a plastic tube that you can open from the other end to release them.
You can also make your own trap using a deep bucket with small "steps" that you create, which leads them to a tub full of peanut butter that they fall into.
It's also important to seal off all potential openings to your home or apartment.
They can fit through extremely small spaces, so these mice may be accessing your home in areas that you never expected.
A professional can help to identify and holes where this may be taking place.
At the end of the day, eliminating any trails of food and understanding the way they operate will give you some great insight into the best way to deal with these visitors.
