The phrase "just an average Joe" does not mean anything in God's Kingdom.
In fact, the people that God used were certainly not the types who would be regarded as "heroes" in the eyes of man! Lets' consider a few of God's chosen men.
First there was Moses, a murderer and stutterer, was used to lead the Jews out of Egypt; David an ordinary shepherd boy whom God appointed as King, who was also an adulterer and murderer; Jonah who did everything in his power NOT to do God's bidding; Saul (Paul) who hated the Christians so much that he was persecuting them, often having them killed, becomes a fervent evangelist to both the Jews and the Gentiles.
The people around them did not see anything special in them and yet God did and if God could use these very ordinary people, couldn't He use you too? God has a general call on all of our lives and a specific call for each of us.
He calls us to live in obedience to His word; to love one another and to do what is right.
However, as followers of Christ, He has also called us to a special role that He wants us to play generally based on the unique combination of gifts He has given you.
As we, the Church, are all part of the body of Christ, we are not meant to operate in isolation but rather to use our gifts to in combination with the gifts of others to best fulfill God's plans.
For most of us the call will not be as obvious as the one that Moses had, however, that does not make the things that we are called to do any less important.
If God has something for you to do, it IS important.
It may not be big, it may be nothing more than being an active member of a prayer group, yet on a spiritual level, that could be more important than being on the worship team.
There is one further call that all Christ followers are called to:- Matthew 18 - 20 " Then Jesus came to them and said ' All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
'" Known as The Great Commission, this command is something that terrifies most Christians! "Become a Missionary!" "Speak to other people about Jesus!" The very thought turns people cold.
However, by living the kind of life that God has called us to as I mention earlier, and developing a Christ-like attitude, that could be the biggest influence on someone else's life, without you having to say a single thing! So if you are feeling as though your life is rather small and insignificant, if you are a true Christ follower, then you will understand that God wants to have a personal relationship with you and therefore you are not insignificant at all.
God loves you and the best way that you can show someone else that they are also loved by the Creator, is to treat them lovingly and to allow God to use you to impact the lives of the people around you, your family, friends and colleagues.
If you matter to God then allow Him to use you, and you will be amazed at how He will use you to touch the lives of others around you.
