In Israel on October 7th, the Jewish people held a ceremony in honor of the Ten Days of Repentance at the Temple Mount where they cried out unto the Lord.
In unison, men gathered last month as one voice due to the relentless terrorization facing the nation of Israel.
Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu explained, "We're shouting out to God like a baby shouting out to his father.
When a baby cries, his father understands him.
His mother understands him.
This is how we shout out to God.
Without talking.
" And without question, the Lord hears their cries.
Repeatedly in the Bible, scriptures depict the Lord as the Deliverer to those who cry out to Him in distress.
With Israel facing threats from Iran, Syria, and Egypt-we can see why they are calling out to God.
The Israeli citizens are asking the Lord for deliverance, and Americans should follow their example, but our cry should be one of repentance.
2011 marked a year when the United States faced unprecedented natural disasters, civil and political unrest.
America needs to cry out to the Lord for mercy.
King David, filled with the Holy Spirit, wrote, "The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and deliverth them out of their troubles.
" (Psalm 34:17).
America is a nation that has fallen far from the Judeo-Christian principles which it was built on, and the effects are glaringly apparent in today's culture and society.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).
The fervent cries and prayers of the righteous may be one of the main reasons that our country has yet to suffer a severe, paralyzing judgment from the Lord.
What is it about crying out that produces a reaction from the Lord? Humility.
When we cry out, we acknowledge that we are dependent on the Lord for guidance, strength and ultimately salvation.
Crying is a natural emotional response caused by physical pain, sadness, or even joy.
Such genuine emotion may be the reason why the Lord told Israel the following when the nation of Israel had sinned against Him and His Commandments, "If my people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
" As humans, we are made of a spirit, soul, and body (1st Thessalonians 5:23).
The body houses the spirit and the soul, and when any of these three are affected positively or negatively, we cry.
When the Lord delivered King David from the hand of his enemies, David proclaimed, "In my distress I called upon the Lord and cried to my God, and He did hear my voice out of His temple, and my cry did enter into His ears (2nd Samuel 22:7)" Just imagine what the outcome would be within our nation if every heart and every voice cried out in repentance and truly sought the Lord.
Dakes Annotated Bible explains in more detail what we, as a nation, must do to receive blessings from God:
" (Psalm 9:17).
You only need to look inside your own heart, let alone the hearts of the nation, to see the results of forgetting God.
A house divided cannot stand, and as our economy continually spirals downward, a division among citizens is being created by our country's leadership.
In this growing frustration, citizens have willingly put their faith in the government rather than in God.
However, it is God, not government that supplies our needs.
God is the source for all things in life; putting your trust in anything else will set you up for crushing disappointment and failure.
As we approach 2012, it's evident that the road ahead for our nation is going to get considerably worse.
However, we have a promise: "For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
" (1Peter 3:12).
So cry out to the Living God.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone.
