- Instead of using traditional vases of flowers for the centerpiece, display blooms in unusual ways. Transform square vases into packages by attaching ribbons to them with double-sided tape and have the flowers casually emerge from the top. Pick up small second-hand or vintage birdcages, spray paint them in silver or gold, and place bouquets of flowers inside. For long tables, intermingle small, distinct centerpieces down the center instead of using just one large one as the focal point.
- Greenery can be as alluring as fresh flowers, either on its own or paired with flowers. A healthy ivy shines as a focal point. Cover a pot with decorative cloth or paper, place it in the center of the table and decoratively arrange vines from either side to the table’s ends. Hearty types of cut flowers provide bursts of color interspersed with the vines. Bud vases showcase single cuttings of ferns or other lacy greenery. Egg cups or wine goblets at each place setting can feature tiny flowers such as violets or pansies.
- Glass or crystal dishes and vases filled with mixtures of edibles provide unique table accents. Cut the rinds from oranges or lemons in one continuous, curly strip and arrange them in the bottoms and up the sides of the containers. Fill the dishes with water and add fresh carrot curls or fancy-cut cucumbers to the display. Display fresh sprigs of dill, curly parsley, rosemary and thyme in tiny vases at each place setting to add beauty and light aromas to the tabletop.
- Rather than using plain place cards for guests, incorporate them into a favor. Tiny baskets filled with artificial grass or straw and topped with a speckled candy egg reflect the season, and the place card can be displayed on the side of the basket, secured by the egg. Instead of tying ribbons around glass stems, decorate each stem with a silk butterfly attached with a clear wire tie. Fill miniature terra cotta plant pots with a selection of flower and herb seed packets for favors guests can take home to cultivate as a keepsake.
