- 1). Disconnect all power to the area in which you will be working at the main circuit breaker.
- 2). Unscrew the faceplate of the existing switch with a screwdriver, and remove the faceplate.
- 3). Unscrew the screws securing the switch to the wall bracket and slide the switch out from the wall.
- 4). Unscrew the terminals on the back of the existing switch and remove the wires.
- 5). Tape the wires together and tape them against the wall with electrical tape. This will prevent them from falling in the wall.
- 6). Wrap the wires around their corresponding terminals on the back of the dimmer switch: red (traveler), white (neutral), black (load) and green (ground).
- 7). Secure the wires in place by screwing down the terminals with a screwdriver.
- 8). Screw the dimmer switch in place against the wall bracket with a screwdriver.
- 9). Screw the dimmer switch's face plate in place with a screwdriver.

Screw a dimmable fluorescent bulb in the socket of the light controlled by the dimmer switch. - 11
Return power to the work area at the main circuit breaker.
