- 1). Examine the data side of your CD. This is the side of the CD that does not contain the discs label. Look for any scratches, dirt or other obstructions that may be preventing the CD player or computer CD drive from reading the disc. Take a soft piece of cloth and wipe any obstructions free from the disc and try to play it again.
- 2). Purchase a CD Scratch Remover device. These devices are sold at many electronics stores like Best Buy or Staples. When a disc gets scratched, oftentimes the scratch is present on the thin layer of plastic that protects the data layer and hasn't actually damaged the disc in any permanent way. A CD Scratch Remover device will file down this thin layer of plastic, removing the scratch and allowing your device to play the CD correctly once again.
- 3). Clean your CD player or computer CD drive. If your CD is skipping, it isn't necessarily going to be because of a problem with the disc. If your CD player's internal lens gets dirty this can also cause a CD to skip. Open the unit's disc tray and use either a can of compressed air or a CD player laser lens cleaning kit (both of these things can be found at most computer stores) to get any obstructions off of the lens. Then, try your CD again to see if it plays properly.
