- Removing many smells requires cleaning the carpets, floors and airing out the house. Use products designed specifically to remove odors, such as carpet deodorizers or baking soda; allow either product to sit on the carpet overnight and then vacuum the carpets. Open all the windows in the house to let in as much fresh air as possible.
- Wash down all walls in the house with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water. The mixture dries quickly without requiring more wiping.
- Avoid using room sprays, scented candles or other similar products. These products are designed to mask or cover the smell and won't remove the underlying odors. Absorb smells by leaving bowls of vinegar around the house instead.
