- 1). Check your pillows thoroughly to make sure that there are no openings, especially in the stitched area.
- 2). Place two pillows in the machine, one on each side for balance. You can skip the detergent, particularly if it has any harsh chemicals.
- 3). Run the washing machine on the delicate cycle. When the pillows are finished washing, run the rinse cycle once more.
- 4). Place the two pillows in the dryer on low heat with three or four new tennis balls to help fluff them. After every 20 minutes or so, take the pillows out and fluff them by hand to break up any clumps of feathers, then replace the pillows in the dryer. Don't run the dryer more than 60 minutes.
- 5). Place pillows in the sun until they are completely dry, usually about two hours. This will lessen the chance that they will get moldy later on.
- 1). Remove the pillow case and shake the pillow to loosen any feather clumps or dust.
- 2). Run a vacuum cleaner over the surface of the pillow to up remove dust, mites, flaked skin and dander.
- 3). Use a damp sponge to clean the pillow cover. The cover is the cloth that surrounds the feather filling, not the slip-on pillow case.
