- 1). Switch off the breaker to the bathroom. Allow the shower area to dry completely to prevent danger of electrocution before beginning the installation process.
- 2). Mark the area of the ceiling where you want to install the light fixture. This area should be in between two studs, but not on a stud. Use your stud finder to determine the best area to install the fixture.
- 3). Place the cutting template that came with the shower light in the spot that you marked and trace around it. Cut this circle out using a drywall saw.
- 4). Drop the recessed lighting fixture through the hole from above. If you do not have a drop ceiling or attic where you can access the wiring from above, you will need to install a cut-in can to allow you to properly access the wiring and install the fixture from below.
- 5). Extend the two arms of the light fixture so that they securely touch the studs on either side of the fixture. This will guarantee the security of the fixture in the ceiling. Using the attached screws, drill the arms into each of the studs to prevent slipping. Then tighten the screws on the arm closest to the fixture to keep the arms from sliding out.
- 6). Open the junction box on the light to access the fixture's wiring. Extend the feed wiring from the switch until it reaches the junction box. Strip off about 3/4 of an inch of both wires' insulation, then connect them using a wire nut. Connect the ground wires together and connect them with another wire nut.
- 7). Twist the black wires together several times and connect them with a wire nut. Twist the white wires together several times and connect them with a wire nut.
- 8). Close the junction box cover.
