- 1). Make sure the power to the circuit you are working on is turned off at the circuit breaker panel.
- 2). Cut the black and white wires leading to the outlet about 2 to 3 inches from the switch. Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires on each side of the cut.
- 3). Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the black and white wires leading to the new light.
- 4). Place the bare ends of the three white wires together, parallel and facing in the same direction. Slide a wire nut over the ends of the wires and twist it to the right until it's tightly securing the wires together.
- 5). Place the bare ends of the three black wires together, parallel and facing in the same direction. Slide a wire nut over the ends of the wires and twist it to the right until it's tightly securing the wires together.
