- 1). Observe the error messages on the display. "Unlock" means there is either a problem receiving a digital audio signal or the system is tuned to receive a digital audio signal, but one isn't available. Check that the correct input is selected on the Sony amp. Press the "Input" button or rotate the "Input" dial. Set the amp to "Auto In," which will give priority to digital. Make sure the digital cable is connected to the digital jack. Check that the amp is set to output a digital source. If there isn't a digital source, change the setting to "Analog."
- 2). Verify that the amp isn't stuck on the in-store demonstration mode. Power the amp off, and press the "Display' button repeatedly.
- 3). Analyze your use. In the future, don't play the amp at full volume if you see error messages "Unplug" or "Protect." Sony amps have a protection mode that can trigger these. Turn the volume down; never set the amp's volume control to the maximum anyway as it can damage the amp. Turn off the surround sound if both the A and B speakers are powered at the same time; check that the speaker wiring is intact. Turn off the amp, wait awhile and turn it back on again.
- 4). Turn everything off; check that the speaker wires are connected and intact; turn off any nearby electronic devices and move the speaker wires away from electrical cords if you encounter hissing, crackling or popping from the speakers connected to the Sony amp.
