- 1). Locate the SD slot on the camera to determine if it uses a standard SD card. A standard SD card slot is the size of a postage stamp turned on its end. The actual physical dimensions of the card are 32 x 24 x 2.1 mm. Thus, if the width of the slot in the camera is 24 mm, then you can use a standard SD card.
- 2). Determine if the SD slot in the camera is smaller than a standard SD slot which indicates that it uses a Mini SD card. The physical dimensions of a Mini SD card are 21 x 20 x 1.4 mm. Thus, if the width of the slot in the camera is 20 mm wide, you can use a Mini SD card. Mini SD cards contain the same memory and functionality as standard SD cards, but are simply smaller. Some Mini SD cards come with an adaptor that converts them into a standard sized SD card when needed.
- 3). Decide how many pictures you will take at one time, as well as how many pictures you will store on the camera, as opposed to downloading to a computer. These factors all impact the size of the SD card you should choose. Standard SD cards and Mini SD cards are available in sizes from 32 MB to 2 GB. The more pictures you take or store, the large size SD card you need.
