The 1990 Camaro Stereo Wire Colors

    Constant Power

    • The 1990 Camaro's radio stores a clock setting and your favorite preset stations, even after you shut the engine off. It does this using a steady dose of 12 volts of electricity from the battery. This wire is independent of the main power wire that turns the radio on and off. This constant power wire is orange in color.

    Switched 12-Volt Power

    • The switched 12-volt power is the electrical source responsible for turning your 1990 Camaro's radio on and off with the ignition key. This wire receives a 12-volt flow of power only when the key is in the "Acc" or "Run" position -- this prevents the battery from draining if you forget to turn the radio off. This wire is yellow in color.

    Ground

    • The 1990 Camaro's radio requires a good body ground to complete the 12-volt circuit of electricity. Without a good ground connection, you can cause serious damage to the radio and the vehicle's electrical system. The ground wire on the 1990 Camaro is black in color.

    Power Antenna

    • The 1990 Camaro has a power antenna that collapses into the front fender when it's not needed. The motor that raises and lowers the antenna requires a trigger wire to activate it. This wire on the 1990 Camaro is pink in color.

    Radio Lighting

    • The 1990 Camaro's radio has two lighting wires. One brings power to the radio's lights and the other regulates the brightness of the lights. The main illumination wire for the Camaro's radio is gray, and the dimmer wire -- the one that controls the brightness -- is brown.

    Speakers

    • The 1990 Camaro has a four-speaker sound system. Chevy mounted two 4-by-6-inch speakers in the top of the dashboard. The two rear speakers are 6-by-9 inches and mounted in the side panels. The left-front speaker's positive wire is tan and its negative wire is gray. The right-front speaker's positive wire is light-green and its negative wire is dark-green.

The Camaro's left-rear speaker's positive wire is brown and the negative wire is yellow. The right-rear speaker's positive wire is dark-blue and its negative wire is light-blue.
