- Locate and expose the power wires from the solar panel and the fan's motor. If the ends are not stripped, take off about a half-inch of insulation from the end of each wire with a pair of wire strippers or scissors. Be careful not to cut too deeply, so you don't accidentally cut the end off the wire.
Entwine the stripped end of the solar panel's positive (red) lead wire with the stripped end of the motor's positive lead wire. Make sure they are firmly connected and use a drop of solder to secure the connection. Repeat the process with the negative leads, and allow your solder to harden and cool over at least an hour's time.
Mount your fan on a sturdy surface with more strips of double-sided sticky foam. Make sure your fan is mounted where you'd like your cool, sun-powered breeze to come from as well as near source of consistent, bright sunlight.
Lay the solar cell nearby in the sunlight, making sure it gets as much regular sunlight as possible. Allow a short space of time for the solar cell to collect enough power to run the motor, between 5 and 30 seconds, and watch the fan carefully for uneven operation.
