- 1). Put on cotton gloves to polish your silver. According to the Society of American Silversmiths, fingerprints can contribute to tarnished silver.
- 2). Line the bottom of a shallow pan with a piece of aluminum foil.
- 3). Boil a small amount of water in the pan. Add 1 tsp. of salt and 1 tsp. of baking soda to the water. There should be approximately 2 to 3 inches of water in the pan, or enough to be able to submerge the silver flatware.
- 4). Place tarnished silver flatware in the boiling water for a couple of minutes, then remove and wipe away the tarnish with a clean cloth. If any of the tarnish remains, simply repeat the boiling process again.
- 5). Dry the silver with a clean, soft cloth to avoid water spots. Put the flatware away for the next use.
