- 1). Measure the place where storage box will be kept. This could be a large storage box on the floor or a small storage box for shelving units. Write down the height, width and depth of the box.
- 2). Use the measurements to sketch the box and figure out the dimensions of each side. The sides should be the height by width, the bottom and top should be depth by length and the front and back pieces should measure height by width.
- 3). Measure and mark the plywood and cut the pieces out with a saw. Use the sandpaper to smooth the edges of each piece.
- 4). Connect the side pieces to the front piece by applying glue to the edges of side pieces where they will meet the front piece. Use two screws per piece to secure it tightly together. Do this for the opposite side piece.
- 5). Connect the back side of the box using the same method as the front. Ensure the pieces are tightly connected with two screws per side piece.
- 6). Flip the storage box so the sides stand as a rectangle. Place the bottom piece on the top and use a leveler to see if it is straight. When the bottom is lined up with the rest of the pieces, use nails and a hammer to connect it to the side pieces.
- 7). Flip the box again, so it rests of the just-attached bottom. Prepare the lid by screwing two hinges into the top piece first. The hinges should be spaced apart, but not too far out, as the hinges should not interfere with the sides.
- 8). Place the lip on top of the box frame created in previous steps and attach the hinges. This should be done on the inside of the box. Use screws to attach the hinges. Close the lid on the storage box.
