A side-swept fringe or set of bangs is a fun and flirty trend that seems to stay relevant in fashion. With hairstyles constantly changing texture and shape, the fringe look is classic, yet it can have a modern twist depending on how you style the rest of your hair. - In order to grow out your fringe or bangs into a side-swept style, you must trim and reshape them. Cut straight across bangs at an angle once they have passed the bottom of your eyebrows to soften the look. You can do this by yourself, but seeking out the advice or services of a stylist will help if you're feeling nervous. If your bangs are already side-swept, let the outer corners grow while you micro-trim the middle. Achieve this look by having the hair around your face slightly angled to meet the growing bangs every four to six weeks. Style your bangs with a product to tame them while you are growing them out. Color can also give hair a boost when it is going through an awkward stage, but avoid the striped zebra look by just highlighting the ends for a soft illusion. Alternatively, push your fringe back with a couple of bobby pins, tuck it under a soft fabric headband, or let a few pieces hang out so the look is less severe.
- With clean and dry hair, apply a thickening balm, then rough-dry with your hands by rubbing your bangs back and forth. Next, lift random sections and twist the hair in different directions until nearly dry with both hands. Using large velcro rollers, roll your hair in the direction you wish to style it, spray with hairspray, then dry with a diffuser or low setting on your hair dryer. Allow your hair to cool and set for a few moments, then remove rollers and apply a small amount of texturizing balm. Apply a blast of heat with your hair dryer, then texturize the roots by massaging them with your finger tips. Take a big section of fringe, and part it low over your face so it sits asymmetrically and falls over one eye. Next, spray a sculpting spray onto your bangs as you blast it one last time with the dryer to melt the spray onto your bangs. Next, apply more texturizing balm to definine random sections until you reach the desired shape. Finish with hairspray to secure your look in place.
- Style clean and dry hair as you would normally, then gently grab a section of hair between your fingers. Make sure you keep this section loose, because pulling down on the hair will alter the length dramatically. For a side sweep, your fingers should be at an angle slanted in the same direction as your fringe. Using cuticle scissors will help you avoid cutting a huge chunk all at once. Hold the cuticle scissors vertically when you cut your hair for a softer look. Try not to snip more than 1/4 inch at a time to avoid cutting too much off. Decide on which side of your face you would like your fringe to fall. Trim outward, from the center of your forehead until you reach the middle of your eyebrow and stop. Cutting past your eyebrow can define a cowlick, and if you have one you could end up with a hole in your fringe. Once you've cut the desired length, brush off any loose hair with your fingers and style to your desire.
