Book Review - Tall Tales by Karen Day

Do you remember the first book you read that was so great you did not want to stop reading? Tall Tales by Karen Day is that book for my daughter, Taylor.
I had been struggling with her every day after school to read for 30 minutes.
She recently decided that she wanted to read the nominees for the Bluebonnet Award so she could vote.
The first book on the list that she chose to read was Tall Tales by Karen Day.
She started coming home after school and instead of turning on the TV, she sat on the couch reading.
I could not believe it.
She loved the book and did not want to stop reading.
She finally understood what I have been talking about and why I love to read.
Meg has a secret and to keep anyone from finding out, she lies about her family life.
This secret also means the family moves a lot.
All Meg really wants is a best friend.
What happens when she finally finds one? Grace is becoming a best friend but Meg is always making excuses as to why they can't ever go to her house.
Eventually, events take place that force Meg to admit the family secrets.
Grace still wants to be best friends.
The journey of finding a best friend, opening up and being vulnerable, also causes Meg to be strong and stand up for what she believes.
This is a tough subject and tears were shed while reading.
I highly recommend this book for 4th grade and up.
