- 1). Pick up the alpaca's leg, bending the leg at the knee backward toward you.
- 2). Move your hand toward the foot, and hold it in your hand gently. Do not grip the alpaca's ankle as this may cause the animal to pull away from you.
- 3). Trim the alpaca's nail slowly and gently with the pruning shears. Be careful not to cut into the tissue, or quick, below the nail. Usually the quick is dark, while the nail is often lighter and dry in appearance.
