- The elegant pony tail takes a couple of steps to complete: First, if your hair is wavy or curly, straighten it with a curling iron or straightener. Pull hair tight, and securely fasten a pony tail -- use two pony tails if your hair is thick -- just above the center of the back of your head. Using a light hair straightening gel, pat a small amount of gel from your forehead to the base of the pony tail to prevent fly-aways and frizz. The end result is sleek and elegant.
- To get the curly pony tail, curl all of your hair in small strands. Any curling iron can work, but for smaller, more dramatic curls, use a skinny curling iron. After all hair is curled, apply a hairspray or curly-hair gel in a scrunching motion to secure the curls. - For a simple, yet pretty, pony tail on the fly or for the workplace, securely fasten hair in a low pony tail at the nape of your neck or midcenter of the back of your head. Secure fly-aways with bobby pins the color of your hair, and lightly spray with a humidity-resistant hair spray.
- For a funky, different approach to the pony tail, fasten a low, secure pony tail to either the left or right side of the head. If hair is short, fasten loose hair on the opposite side of the pony tail with bobby pins or clips. Spray the entire head with strong-holding hairspray.
