- 1). Change the light cover: Purchase a light cover in the color of your choice. Snap the cover over the recessed lighting fixture and screw it in place.
- 2). Select bulbs with different beam spreads: Choose flood bulbs for a wide beam of color and a colored spot beam to project a certain shade on a specific area of the room.
- 3). Replace the bulb: Purchase a colored bulb for your recessed lighting fixture at your local hardware or home supply store. Place a 12-inch piece of duct tape on the existing bulb to get a firm grip, folding the ends back to form handles. Remove the existing bulb and replace install the new colored bulb.
