Household Cleaners for Spoiled Milk Stains on Carpet

    Baking Soda and White Vinegar

    • Pour a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda onto the rug. This will not only combat the smell, it will fade or get rid of any stain left behind by the milk. Scoop 2 tbsp. of baking soda into a glass or cup. Pour 1/4 cup of white vinegar into the same cup (it will fizz). Mix the two ingredients together well. Dump the mixture over the stain and allow it to penetrate deep into the carpet. Using a clean dish towel or rag, dab the carpet. Do not allow the mixture to soak up into the rag, you just want it to pull up any spoiled milk that is in the rug. Allow the mixture to sit for fifteen minutes. Then dump clean, hot water over the spot. Use a large dish towel to soak up the water and vinegar mixture from the carpet.

    Laundry Stain Remover

    • Wet the milk stain with a little hot water. Spray a little laundry stain remover onto the spot. Rub the stain remover into the carpet so that it mixes with the fibers; this will also allow it to penetrate deep into the pad of the carpet where most of the spilled milk probably ended up. Let the stain remover sit for five minutes. Using a thick cotton dish towel, gently scrub the area, loosening up the stain. Pour more hot water onto the stain and then soak up the excess liquid with the cotton rag. Sprinkle some baby powder onto the area to help it absorb the moisture that has soaked deep into the carpet. You may want to turn a fan on to help the area dry faster. Vacuum up the baby powder after about an hour.

    Dawn and Hot Water

    • You can use a little (no more than 1/2 tsp.) of Dawn dish soap, mixed with hot water to help loosen up the milk stain. Do not use too much, since you do not want a soapy carpet. The Dawn will help the stain to fade, and kill the smell. After you have scrubbed the area, pour a little more hot water onto the area and then using a thick, cotton dish towel or rag, soak up the soapy water from the carpet. Put pressure onto the rag as you push it into the carpet; this will help to gather all the excess moisture from the pad as well.
