- 1). Find the leak and determine the size of the damaged area to the vinyl liner. Once the leak has been found, a vinyl patch should be prepared for the repair at around 1 to 2 inches larger than the damaged area. The edges of the patch should be rounded with the scissors to create a circle.
- 2). Apply a thin coat of adhesive to the rear of the vinyl patch. The instructions supplied with an adhesive should be followed to ensure the patch remains in place. Once the adhesive is applied, the patch should be folded in half.
- 3). Move the folded vinyl patch quickly through the water to allow the least amount of water possible to come into contact with the adhesive and rear of the patch. The patch should be unfolded as it is positioned in place.
- 4). Apply pressure to the patch for a minimum of two minutes to ensure the patch holds firmly in place. The longer pressure can be applied, the greater the chance the patch will hold in place for a longer period of time.
- 5). Release the pressure and follow the specific instructions for allowing the adhesive to dry. Some adhesives can take up to a week to dry completely. If a repair fails, the steps of repair should be repeated to apply a new patch to the vinyl liner.
