- 1). Place the engine in neutral. Remove the engine cover by pulling out on the hand clasp at the back of the engine and sliding the cover off.
- 2). Turn on the tachometer and put it on the two-cycle setting.
- 3). Wrap the lead from the tachometer around the black spark plug wire that runs from the coil to the spark plug.
- 4). Start the engine and let it idle. Check the reading of the tachometer against the proper operating specifications in the owner's manual. Rev the engine to the full throttle position. Repeat this step.
