- 1). Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a wrench to loosen the nut. Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- 2). Raise the car with an automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the car's frame near the jacking point and raise it up to the frame of the car.
- 3). Mark the locations of the electrical wires to the starter with a marker and masking tape. Disconnect the wires from the starter using a wrench to remove the nuts.
- 4). Remove the starter to engine support bracket with a socket and ratchet. Remove the mounting bolts on the starter with the socket and ratchet.
- 5). Install the new starter on the engine and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Reinstall the starter to engine support bracket and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Reconnect the wires to the starter and tighten the nuts with the wrench.
- 6). Remove the jack stand from under the car and lower the car to the ground with the jack.
- 7). Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the nut with the wrench. Start the engine to test the new starter.
