Recently I have been looking at a lot of articles and blog posts on baby boomers.
The thing that disturbs me is that baby boomers seem to be given the responsibility for everything wrong in the world today.
It is as if the whole generation is evil.
Are they evil? Since I am a member of that generation, born in 1950, I suppose that I am somewhat biased.
Be that as it may, I would have to say that I do not believe baby boomers to be evil anymore than any other generation.
Are we the generation in power at the moment.
Yes, for the most part we are.
Are the people in power responsible for the condition of the world today? I would say both yes and no.
Certainly those in power and especially corporate power have responsibility and they are not obligated to anyone.
Those who run the banks, the insurance companies, the coal mining industry and so on.
These people are in a large degree responsible for many of the wrongs in today's economic and climate situations.
Those in elected office are another matter.
Are they responsible for the laws they pass and the things they do.
Sure! Are they completely responsible? not in any democratic nation.
The voters are responsible.
If you think your government is out of control it is because you allow them to be.
Any elected official can be voted out.
I live in New York state, one of the most dysfunctional state governments in the United States.
For the last two or three elections, since I have lived here, the voters have elected, for the most part, all the incumbents.
I even wrote a letter to the editor of the local paper.
In the letter I chastised people for complaining about the state government and then voting the same incompetents back into office.
Who is to blame? The voters! If other generations than the baby boomers don't like the way things are going, then get involved and change them! Don't just point the finger and say all baby boomers are bad, they aren't.
I know lots of people my age that have good morals and values.
I know people of other generations that have poor values.
What does that all say? It says two things.
If you don't like the way things are going, do something to change it.
It also says that if you lump everyone of a particular age group or ethnicity together, you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!
