• The purpose of housewrap such as Tyvek HomeWrap is to provide an extra layer of waterproofing for new homes. While siding will shed most of the water, some rainwater will leak down behind it. Housewrap is fitted underneath siding to protect the rest of the house's structure from getting damp and wet.

• Tyvek housewrap is made from special polymers that make it breathable. It repels water running in from outside but does not trap it inside. Despite this breathability, it is still very important to install Tyvek HomeWrap properly so that there are no gaps for water to leak through. • Common mistakes when installing Tyvek HomeWrap and other housewraps include not wrapping gables and corners, not overlapping sheets of wrap properly and not sealing around doors and windows.
