How to Be a Green Caravanner

When people consider what type of holiday to take these days, two subjects keep cropping up.
Money and the environment! With many caravan sites and holidays parks all round the UK, a caravanning holiday is a really cost effective and environmentally friendly way to have a family holiday.
In this article we are going to look at some tips to make sure you have a "green" caravan holiday.
The basics of this advice are that the less fuel you use travelling to your destination and while you are there, the lower your CO2 output will be.
Choosing a towcar that matches your caravan will help you avoid having to constantly change gear and be able to drive a lot more efficiently.
Your local caravan dealer will help you match these up.
When it is appropriate, you should try to tow your vehicle at 40mph for the best fuel consumption.
When you increase your speed to 50mph or more then your fuel consumption greatly increases.
While on holiday, why not try to cycle to most places? This is a zero emission form of travel, is fun and will help to get the family fit.
If you are going to bring your own bikes rather than hire ones, then you should use a rear mounted carrier to reduce drag.
One major way to reduce your output is to make sure you aren't carrying more weight than is needed.
There is sometimes a tendency to bung everything in the caravan due to the extra room it provides.
But the lighter your vehicle and caravan is, the less you will have to accelerate and brake during changes in speed.
This tip helps all motorists, but especially caravan owners.
By checking your tyres are at the correct pressure will help to reduce both fuel consumption, adverse tyre wear and handling problems.
Heavy traffic is a common problem that occurs in the summer, if it comes to a standstill at any point you should switch off your engine.
If the traffic is moving at a very slow pace why not try moving at a slow pace in a low gear to avoid the usual stop start motoring.
This technique helps the traffic move smoothly and will help reduce the wear to your breaks and clutch.
So if you are planning on taking your caravan to a holiday park or campsite in 2010, why not take on board some of these tips and become a green caravanner.
