- 1). Fill the kitchen sink with warm water and add a squirt of dish soap. Place the new gasket in the water. This will soften the new gasket and make it easier to install.
- 2). Open the dishwasher door and inspect the old gasket. In some Whirlpool models, the gasket is installed into a groove in the door and in others the gasket is held in place with a bracket.
- 3). Loosen all the screws that secure the gasket bracket, if there is one, using a Phillips screwdriver. Don't remove the screws.
- 4). Pull out the old gasket using your hand. The gasket may break apart but ensure that you remove any small pieces.
- 5). Scrub the door where you removed the old gasket using a dish scrubbing pad and the soapy water in the sink. Ensure that you remove all food particles and other debris to ensure the new gasket fits properly. Rinse the area with clean water and a sponge.
- 6). Remove the new gasket from the sink and dry it off with a dish towel. Install the gasket starting at one of the bottom corners and working your way around the door. Ensure that the gasket doesn't bunch up and, if the dishwasher had a bracket with screws, tighten the screws as you go.
- 7). Place a flashlight inside the dishwasher pointing toward the front and close the door. If you see light around the edge of the door, you will need to adjust the gasket so it adequately seals. Open the door and check the gasket where you saw the light. Usually it is the case that the gasket is not completely straight. Straighten out the gasket and close the door. Run a cycle and ensure there is no water on the floor afterward.
