- 1). Mark the middle of one block of wood along its length with a pen. Measure 1 inch from the bottom on the vertical end of the block. Mark this with a pen.
- 2). Cut into each block at the pen marks with a scroll saw, so that the two cuts intersect. This will create a rectangular cut-out.
- 3). Measure a 45-degree angle, with a protractor, from a bottom corner of the untouched block of wood. Draw a line with a pen beginning in the bottom corner along a 45-degree angle to the top of the block. Cut along this line with a scroll saw so that one side of the block is at a 45-degree angle.
- 4). Drill a hole in the middle of a metal plate with a power drill. Place the metal plate in the middle of the 45-degree side of the block. Make sure that the sharpened end protrudes a quarter-inch below the bottom of the block of wood. Attach the plate to the block with a screw and a power screwdriver.
- 5). Place the blocks of wood next to each other so that the cut-out and the metal plate face each other. Mark where the sides of the metal plate hits the cut-out block with a pen. Measure half an inch back from the marks. Use the scroll saw to cut another rectangle out of the cut-out block along these marks.
- 6). Attach the two wood blocks together. Face the cut-out side and metal plate side together. Place a bolt plate on one side so that there is a hole over each block. Secure it to each block with screws and a power screwdriver. Do the same on the other side.
