      Engine Oil Dip Stick

Indentify which engine is installed in the car. The 235 inline-six has only one valve cover and six spark plugs in a row; the 265 V-8 has two valve covers and four spark plugs on each side.

Add oil to the 235 inline-six. Find the dip stick on the left-hand side of the engine block. Check the oil level on the dip stick and determine if a full quart of oil is needed. If the oil level has reached the 1 qt. low mark, remove the black oil breather on the top of the valve cover and skip to Step 4.

      265 V-8

Add oil to the 265 V-8. Find the dip stick on the right-hand side of the engine block. Check the oil level on the dip stick and determine by the 1 qt. low mark on the dip stick if a full quart of oil is needed. After wiping off the dip stick with your towel, replace it into the engine block. Remove the black oil breather cap on the top the oil breather tube, which comes out of the top of the engine at an angle to the right of the engine (shown in photo).

    • 4). Check the driver's side door frame or look at the top of the windshied on the driver's side for the oil change data tag. It should indicate what viscosity of oil was used the last time a complete oil change was done on the engine. Make sure that the oil that you are adding is the same viscosity that was used for the last oil change.

    • 5). Insert a plastic or paper funnel in the oil fill hole. Slowly pour 1 qt. of oil into the engine. Wait several minutes and check the dip stick to make sure that the oil registers properly on the stick. Wipe off the dip stick and insert it back in the engine block.
