Video: What Color Eyeliner & Eyeshadow Should I Wear With Brown Eyes?

Video Transcript

Hi I'm Kendra Richards, professional makeup artist, and today I'm going to show you what color eyeliner and eye shadow work with brown eyes. If you have brown eyes you can wear any color and really make it work for you. It's a great advantage, lucky you. So to start this look I'm going to use the Artliner by Lancome in Noir and I love this deep rich black color. There is nothing that gives definition and punch to an eye like a true deep black liner. This tip of this brush makes it so easy even if you're a little nervous about doing liner, I promise you with some practice and a genius brush like this you will be doing perfect eyeliner in no time. And you know you can play with this too you can try a color if you'd like to experiment instead of black. I just selected black for Leah because I just wanted a really dramatic beautiful eye and you want to make sure that you wait a couple moments and allow that some time to dry. You want to wing it out on the end and finish it off at the bottom and you can take a little Q tip if you need to correct any little imperfections if you've gone outside of where you need to be and that just softens it a little bit and then I want to lift at the end so I'm going to use that Q tip to help lift. The purpose of eyeliner is to help accentuate the shape of the eye. It really defines the eye as mascara does, so does eyeliner. It's a really critical component to creating a dramatic eye. You can see what a difference actually with just one eye done right now. So again as you can see I'm really giving her a dramatic look. I'm starting at the outer edge and just drawing that line in and I'm doing it in multiple strokes as you can see here. It's not one complete line, I'm building it, I'm creating the shape as I go, that way you can create whatever shape you want. I like to do a thicker edge on the outer edge of the eye. It opens up and elongates and adds drama. You could do this in a purple, a green, a dark blue if you'd like to play and have fun with the color. One way to help you get that line straighter when you're using liquid liner, is to pull just gently the outer edge of the eye there, that helps you lay that color down a little more smoothly and then you want to wing it out a little bit, up and out, that's another little tip. If your eye shape, if the outer edge of your eye comes down, you want to be a little bit mindful of that. You don't want to follow the eye shape exactly, you want to lift up a little to give that up and open illusion. It opens and lifts the eye. So just remember always, whether it is your natural eye shape or whether, you want to create that eye shape, you draw the line up and out. So as you can see we've got a great little cat eye, perfect little lift on the edge. It's just beautiful on Leah. So on top of that I'm going to add just a little pop of color to brighten up the eye. So I'm going to use this beautiful green to add just a little pop of color on her eyelid and I'm going to place it right on the lid and blend it out to brighten up and add just a fun bit of color to the eye. That's going to be fun for Spring. You could use this in the Summer as well and you know, you could use purple. You could use a blue if you'd like, even a pink or a peach, bronzes are beautiful on medium beige skin tones as well. You could use a deep jewel tone, whatever you feel like playing with and because Leah has got a beautiful brown eye and it's neutral inherently, you can pull off any color that you'd like to play with on your eye. It all looks beautiful. So one important tip to just keep in mind if you're doing a bright pop of color on the eye, is to keep the rest of the face neutral. That's a perfect balance. Otherwise it's a little bit kind of fighting and you don't want to do that and you can blend it out just slightly with your finger there like that and there you see the Artliner eyeliner is so beautiful and flirty on Leah. It's a great eye on her, I love this look and the sweep of color is just fresh and bright. And there you go, that's how to do eyeliner and eye shadow for brown eyes. I'm Kendra Richards. Thanks for watching.
