- 1). Open the hood and prop it up. Find the large hose coming out of the top of the radiator. Follow that hose down to the metal housing just before the hose enters the engine. Place a bucket on the ground under the housing.
- 2). Locate the two bolts that hold the housing together. Remove the bolts with a ratchet and put them in a safe place. There will be some coolant lost when you take out the bolts.
- 3). Remove the thermostat, noting the direction it faced. It should come out easily. Take off the old gasket. It will probably be stuck to the inside of the housing, in which case you'll have to scrape it off with a screwdriver. Remove all of the old gasket so that the housing is clean.
- 4). Place the new thermostat in the housing the same direction as the old thermostat. Lubricate and place the new gasket where you took out the old one. Put the housing back together and tighten the bolts.
- 5). Remove the bucket from under the vehicle and dispose of the old coolant properly. Fill the coolant reservoir with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water until it reaches the Full line.
