Democrats or the centre-leftists are the ones who are strong advocates of eradicating poverty, even at the cost of regulating appropriate taxation on businessmen. They stand for the equal rights and welfare of every American, and are liberal in granting freedom of press and speech. On the contrary, Republicans are the centre-rightists, conservatives and pro-capitalists, who believe in granting economic freedom than personal.
Apart from the fact what American public perceives Israel, whether a concern of associating all sympathies towards Israel or Palestine, is the notion that to what extent American Democratic and Republican parties are willing to tolerate Israel. The presidency of Barack Obama no doubt has remained unable to ‘sympathize' Israel as compared to the conservative Republicans who are five times more pro-Israelis than Democrats (1). "In February 2010, Fifty-four congressmen sent a letter to Obama urging him to pressure Israel to open Hamas-ruled Gaza's international borders and accusing Israel of engaging in collective punishment. All of them were Democrats." (2) "In the midst of the Obama administration's assault on Israel over construction for Jews in Jerusalem, 327 congressmen signed a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calling for an end to the public attacks on the Israeli government. Of the 102 members who refused to sign the letter, 94 were Democrats." (2)
Much to the dismay of pro-Democrats, are the motivation factors behind pro-Israeli public in America, who prefer to vote for the Republicans candidates in every election. In supporting American-Israeli relationship, the sympathizers are less concerned over American fate than they are beholding the fact that whosoever wins election must be a staunch supporter of Israel, more or less for the Israeli policies that govern at the behest of ‘Israeli cause' in America. This seems true when according to a report one-third of Jewish voters Israeli voters in America voted Republicans in 2004 (3). President Obama (J-Street supporter, the pro-Palestinian lobby who work for the Middle East peace) who wants a peaceful negotiation finds it easier to settle issues being a J street supporter, which is a hope for the frustrated Jewish Americans who are tired of the dominating policies of AIPAC.
Apart from the above facts, Democrats and Republicans, backed by Israel supported war in Iraq to which most of the Americans believe was over oil, Israel feels the aggrandizing threat from the nuclear Iran too. Mearsheimer and Walt mentions it as "Israel and the lobby have been remarkably successful at convincing Bush and other leading American politicians that a nuclear-armed Iran is an unacceptable threat to Israel and it is the responsibility of the U.S to prevent the threat from increasing" (4). So, this is true "When it comes to Israel, Republicans and Democrats speak with one voice"~ Nancy Pelosi
