There are many voices in the world today.
One of them tells you that you have to settle for less -- that you can't ever have what you truly want in life.
This is a LIE! When you delight yourself in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
I can picture the naysayers wagging their fingers at me and calling the last statement in the paragraph above a fairytale.
They are probably thinking about all the disappointments people have experienced.
It's true that people everywhere, including Christians, are disappointed everyday.
Some are so knocked back they give up.
But others don't.
They try, try, and try again until they reach their goals.
Don't listen to the naysayers! God wants you to focus on His Word and not anyone's bad experience, not even your own.
You see, the quality of your life will depend on your level of faith in God.
If you are able to take God at His Word and receive the truth of Psalm 37:4 and other promises in the Bible, those promises will come to pass in your life.
Now, that doesn't mean you can expect to go through life floating on a pink cloud.
Because you live on Planet Earth, you will experience challenges.
But God has given you the tools to get the victory over your problems.
All you need to do is to check out the weapons listed in Ephesians 6.
He wants you to use these weapons to press through to joy and success.
Notice that you must first delight in the Lord before you receive the desires of your heart.
What does it mean to delight in the Lord? Here are two passages of scripture that reveal the answer.
Isaiah 58 This chapter talks about fasting and keeping the Sabbath.
But God is not interested in a religious, outward sign of these actions or any others the Bible teaches.
More than anything, He is more concerned about your attitude of heart.
He wants you to be real.
You can fast for 40 days but if you are insensitive to the needs of others what good was the fast? Under the law, the sabbath was a holy day, set aside for the Lord.
No work was done on this day.
The focus was worship.
You are no longer living under the law but under grace.
I believe that everyday is a Sabbath, a time for worship.
Time should be set aside to fellowship with God.
You might work but you should not be going our own way or doing what you think is right.
You should allow the Lord to order your steps.
According to Isaiah 58:14 this is what it means to delight in the Lord.
Job 22:21-26 Here is yet another picture of how you should follow after the Lord wholeheartedly.
Receiving God's Word, treasuring and storing it in your heart and refusing iniquity (not going your own way or doing your own thing) also means delighting in the Lord according to Job 22:26.
Take time to meditate on the passages I have shared with you above and let them lead you into a new phase of delighting in the Lord.
God has many wonderful things planned for you in 2013.
Put your faith in Psalm 37:4.
Follow its instructions and expect God to move in your life in amazing ways.
