- 1). Locate the fuel filter. In many Dodge models it is located under the hood, usually attached to the firewall. However, depending on the model Dodge you have, it may be located with the fuel lines underneath the car. If it's underneath the car, now is the time to get the car on a lift.
- 2). Depressurize the fuel system. Do this by removing the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box, which should be located underneath the dash near the drivers side. Then run the car until it shuts off by itself. Replace the fuse.
- 3). Remove the fuel lines and, if it has one, the evaporative emissions line from the filter. These may either be clamped on or they may be attached by bolts. You may also need to remove the bracket that holds the filter in place, depending on the model. Be aware that gasoline will spill out of the filter when you take it off.
- 4). Attach the fuel lines to the new filter, paying close attention to proper directional flow. If necessary, reattach the mounting bracket.
- 5). Start the car. It may hiccup a bit and have trouble starting as it build pressure back into the fuel lines. This is normal and shouldn't worry you.
